The Floating Egg Lab

Ingredients
Observation of egg in water before adding ingredients
# of teaspoons added
Observations when ingredient added
Observation when water carefully added
Salt

It’s At The Bottom Of The Cup

6 Teaspoons

It doesn’t go up much, but it goes up.

It floats but in the middle of the water, not all the way at the top.
Epsom Salt

It’s At The Bottom Of The Cup

3 Teaspoons

It starts moving upward.

It stays in the same place, it doesn’t move upward.
Sugar

It’s At The Bottom Of The Cup

10 Teaspoons

It starts moving upward.

It floats on the opposite side of the side where we added water.
Baking Soda

It’s At The Bottom Of The Cup

4 Teaspoons

It moves upward slowly.

It sinks as we add the ingredient.

1)      What Did You Notice While Using Each Ingredient?
I noticed they all floated up slowly, but in the end they always end up floating. Also that we never used less than 3 Teaspoons.

2)      Why Do You Think This Occurred?
I think this happened because the egg is heavy enough for it to sink, but the more ingredients you added the more substances the water contained. So that caused the egg to start floating rather than to sink.

Pre-Reading From "On The SideWalk Bleeding"

1)      When do you form impressions or opinions about people you first meet, what kinds of things do you consider: their looks, clothing, where they are, what they are doing, etc.?

When I form opinions or impressions about people I usually look at what they’re doing and what they look like, because depending on what they’re doing or what they look like it will somewhat determine what kind of person they are. If they are doing something bad or that can cause trouble, you can assume that they are troublemakers. If they are doing something that involves helping people or something that want get you in trouble you can assume that they are good people. I also see if they are smiling, or have a bored expression. If they are smiling you can see that they like smiling, and are a happy person. But it can also mean that they are hiding the fact that they are sad, which can mean that they don’t like to show their feelings in public. But these are just my thoughts, because every person and appearance is different.

3) How would you answer the question “Who Are You?”

I would say that I’m Steffany Mejia, 13 Years old. I was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, so I speak Spanish. I love helping people, because I feel sorry for any person easily, even if I don’t like that person. I would play sports but they’re not my favourite thing, I love fine arts, doing drama, drawing and sketching, and dancing. I like people that can make me happy, like my best friends, and I hate it when my best friends are sad because then that makes sad. Its not very hard to get along with  me , I would say and in a way I’m not different than a person and totally different in other ways.

Schoolyard Bully Convicted Summary

             Schoolyard Bully Convicted

“If I try to get help, things will get worse, they are always looking for a new person to beat up and they are the toughest girls.” That is what Dawn-Marie wrote on her good-bye note before she hung herself on Nov.10.2000. This story is about a 14-year old girl, Dawn-Marie, who ended her life because of bullying. 3 girls at school, threatened to beat her up, and worst, kill her. They were not named, but the main bully supposably cried when she learned what her bullying had caused, but was caught smirking from it and smiling when she met up with her friends to smoke. The odd thing was that the main bully and Dawn-Marie used to be great friends, have sleepovers and spend Halloween together, then the bully heard second-hand that Dawn-Marie saying things behind her back about her. Dawn-Marie had had too much and was done putting up with all the things that were happening to her so she thought that there was no other way for it to stop. She didnt think about who would find her, or what her family would feel, she thought about herself first. The bully who is now 16, said she “Very Much” regrets what she caused. She is no longer bullying since Geoffrey Gaul, a provincial Crown counsellor who talks for Prosecutors from other provinces, said that he hasn’t noticed any cases in B.C., except for a charge of assault after a schoolyard fight about two years ago on Vancouver Island.

Progress Report Refelection

1) What Do You Think Of Your Progress Report? What Are You Happy With? What Arent You So Happy With ?

I think that my progress report was good for the first term, it could have been better but its not really bad either. Im happy with my grades in the main classes like Math, and L.A. The reasons I got good grades in those are mostly because im used to those classes and having them as my top important classes. The grades I got arent that bad for the first term and considering that were learning new things recently. Some of the things that im not so happy with is the grades in my other classes, like Phys Ed and Science. I like Phys Ed because we get to move around, but in general it wouldnt be one of my absolute favourite classes so I dont really do my best as I do in my other classes, so I kind of expected it. Same with science, ive always been bad at science because I dont like the class, ive tried to do better in it but I always ended up where I started.

2)What Can You Do During Term 2 In Order To Improve Your Progress Report ?

For term 2 im gonna try to work harder on every class wether I like it or not because I relaize that even if I dont like the class I still have to do a good job in it. Im also going to try to do more work instead of getting distracted by other people and things.

Holocaust-Expository Writing

Assignment; Imagine Erica, Peter or Daniel's mother are still alive. Pick one of the three characters and ask yourself, "What questions would you like to ask the character?"  Explain why your questions are important to you. Tell the character what you've learned and how you feel after hearing their story. If you can relate her experiences to any conditions facing your generation, explain those connections. Describe for the character what you will do to teach future generations the lessons you've learned from studying the Holocaust.

I have learned many things from the holocaust. The things that happened in Daniel’s story are all things that could have really happened during the holocaust. One of the things that I have learned is that so many things can happen to a group of people just because of their race. I would ask Daniel’s mother how she made it alive thru out all those months, probably years, in the camp without much food, water, medicine or any help at all. I would ask her this because at the end of the holocaust there were not a lot of people that made it alive.. How did she feel having no freedom at all, being called a number instead of her name? It would be interesting to know what it’s like not to have freedom, not to be called by your own name, being treated like you’re not even a person. The German’s took away all their freedom, possessions and even after all that they drove them away from their family. How did she feel when she was free and realized that most of her family was dead? I haven’t lost many of my family at the same time so I would like to know what it feels like to lose a daughter, cousins, brothers and sisters. Especially knowing that they died for being a Jew and the German’s are the ones to blame. I also wonder if she would kill the Germans if she could, for revenge, or if she wouldn’t do the same thing to them, like her husband did, if she would thing that revenge just makes her as bad as them. After hearing her story and her family’s, and after realizing that the holocaust was a real event in life and that over 2 million people were killed I wish people would have done something about it sooner, that what Adolf Hitler didn’t make life as better as he wanted it to be. It just made him a hated person by many and in the end he just failed, I feel bad for everyone who went through the holocaust, everyone who has relatives that were in it, and everyone who suffered because of the race they belong to.

Daniel's Story - Hope *

In chapter 5, Daniel's father said that the radio was really important to the family.  He said that it gave them hope and... "Hope was more important than bread."
What did he mean?  Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

I think means that to him having hope was more important than having something to eat. If you had hope in that time it would help you a lot because someone that didn't have hope wouldn't live much because without hope you would have no reason to live, and you would die because you would give up on having a chance to live and trying to live at all. Bread was very important back then because it would be one of the only things that they would have to eat but even if they had all the bread in the world it wouldn't help them live any longer as much as hope because if they had food but they didn't have hope they would go out to work and wouldn't do anything to help themselves because they would think that they had no chance to live anymore. Daniel's father had hope from the radio because since they had something that was illegal it gave him hope to think that the German's couldn't take everything away from them.

Leopard Seal Story

“Oh my god” I trembled, horrified at the blood and puncture wounds on the front and back of my leg just below my knee…
There was so much blood I thought I was going to faint. I’ve never seen that much blood come out of someone in all my years of exploring, and now that I finally had it was coming out of me. I had no idea what to do. Should I panic or stay still. Yell or keep my mouth shut, I couldn’t breathe or move and I knew that for sure. When I could breathe again there was nothing I could do.
“We have to get you back to the hut” I heard Tim say as he swung me off the floor and into the boat before the seal had a chance to come back for more. Just as I landed safely on the boat, Steve finished loading all the things we had unloaded. We were just about to turn on the motor when we felt something shake the boat from under, in the water. I was to terrified to look, but Tim and Steve looked down the second it moved. In a blink of an eye the seal jumped onto the ice next to us but before we could catch our breath it attacked the boat and flipped it over sinking us into the water.
“Get on to the ice!” I shrieked. Everything had gone wrong on this journey. We all swam as fast as we could to the ice before the seal could get into the water and kill us all in its own habitat. We got onto the ice and took a breath of relief as we thanked god we were still alive. We were on the ice with the seal just a few feet away from us, we backed away with caution knowing that if we made one quick move we would be dead. Tim, obviously not knowing anything about surviving made the most dumbest action any person in front of a leopard seal can do. He scram, “Run!” And that second the seal went for him forgetting about me and Steve.
We both knew that he would be dead in a minute, and there would be nothing left of him. There was nothing we could do except save ourselves. So we got to the water, flipped the boat back over and forgot about everything that was still floating in the water. Nothing mattered more than saving our lives at that moment. We got on the boat, turned on the motor and went as fast as it could go. The seal no doubt heard the motor turn on and left Tim’s body to chase after our boat that was already a few feet away. We could see the seal gaining on us every second it got closer, my heart was beating like the speed of light.
It got faster and faster, it finally caught up to us when we were almost reaching out hut. I bet the seal could smell the blood in its nose even stronger as it got closer to us. I panicked, we weren’t gonna make it, the seal was faster than us. Closer, and closer, I was so busy panicking I didn’t realize that we had arrived at our hut. “Hurry up Claire! Its almost here!” And he didn’t have to tell me that because either way I would have as fast as I ever could have gone. With a big thud I was touching the ground and running inside of the hut before the seal could get any closer to me and Steve.
The hut was only a few feet away from us, but so was the seal. Steve and I were sure to keep quiet but be fast at the same time. The seal was near us and I knew that we weren't going to make it all the way to the hut without the seal attacking us like it already did with Tim. We were almost there! And when we got there we would go the the top and leave on the helicopter before more damage could happen. There we were on the front door and the only problem was to find the keys. Unless we left them where we got attacked with the seal because if we did, we would have to go back there and find them sinking. Oh no, what else could happen? “Have you checked everywhere?” I asked Tim. “No, I will check in my pockets.” He checked and...
There they were. “Hurry, he’s just a few feet away.” He got the keys and unlocked the hut. We got inside, locked the door  and were happier than anyone could ever be. Upstairs we went and in the helicopter, and all we could do is remember this trip, tell everyone the story and about Tim, and laugh about how we too almost died.

Video Games

Are Video Games Good Or Bad ?

I think that video games are good and bad.I think that video games are good for kids because they learn new things in the game. There are many systems that kids play now a days, and for each system there is at least one game that teaches something useful. A game can teach how to have skill in a certain thing. Video Games can be very helpful in life because then you have experience with things that other people have no experience of.

Besides that I also think that if people get too addicted to agame they can grow to learn to play it more than necessary. If you play video games all the time then you will not be healthy and active. Being active is a big part of life and everybody should be healthy in a way. If you play too much of a game then you will never wanna stop, and you will never go outside and be active.

So I think that it is good to play video games because you get experience in things. And they're bad if you play way too much, so i think that if people were to play they would need to keep a balance between playing games and being active.

Why Literacy Is Important

.Literacy is important because without it we wouldn't be able to read or write and that takes away a lot of privileges. If we couldn't read or write we wouldn't be able to read what food is made of and we could eat something that were allergic to. What i think about the paragraphs is that its amazing that the women and her family had nothing and then she came to Canada and she made something out of herself. The guy that sold drugs like his father did start out bad because he followed in his fathers footsteps and did something illegal. Afterwards he knew that he wanted to be there for his son/daughter unlike his dad. The girl with the alcoholic mother, made the right choice to go with her grandmother because she had to take responsibility for her siblings. Literacy is helpful, and people who don't know how to read or write should have help in learning because it can really help people with life

Disease Report On Zoho

1.What Went Well?

Looking for the information on the disease went well because we found out everything. Something else that went well is that we were able to manage making the slideshow and find the pictures for it without any trouble.

2.What Would You Change Next Time?

Next time I wouldnt chage anthing because we did everything how we wanted it. The only thing that I would change is the program that we made the slideshow on, i would rather make the slideshow on PowerPoint .
